About Me

I am currently in my fourth year as a professional in the international education industry. While I very much enjoy my current position as a marketing manager and head of the business development team, I would like to challenge myself by taking on new roles and learning new skills required by other fields.

I have always enjoyed writing, and largely due to my liberal arts education, in conjunction with my years of experience as marketing professional, I am very confident in my abilities to convey my (and hopefully, your) ideas through writing. My grasp of grammar may fall short in comparison to that of a copy editor’s, but I contribute my considerable proficiency in the language arts to my not-so-unique but no less formative experience as a second-generation immigrant in a what seemed to be an impersonal and very large school district. Even among kindergartners, the well-intentioned ESL programs and segregated reading levels administered by Chicago Public Schools were viewed as an undesirable mark of distinction for those who wished to be seen as well-assimilated children in a neighborhood full of immigrant families.

In many ways, I have not changed much since then. I still thrive in environments with less bureaucracy and prefer to work with associates and colleagues who can see me as distinct individual and recognize my own particular skill set and strengths. I am unchanged in my tendency to avoid distinction—good or bad—by preoccupying myself with understanding the big picture and what my team, my company, is hoping to ultimately achieve. However, I do gain great satisfaction when I am rewarded with more responsibility or an additional task.

I tend to undertake leadership roles and create new responsibilities when they are not assigned to me. Some of the work-related accomplishments that I am most proud of were self-started, unprompted initiatives, e.g. a nascent scholarship program, the company’s annual day of service, and internal professional development workshops and weekly presentations on industry-related news.

I hope to present myself as someone far more complicated than the person on the pages of my resume, LinkedIn, and other social networking websites. Not that I do not maintain all of those presently, but I wish to expand opportunities for potential employers and future mentors to view me as an individual and engage with me on another level before or after the phone interview.
